There is one place in Thailand that
horror should not miss to visit especially the lovers of horror,
Temple Mae Nak name. Temple is located in the temple complex of Wat
Maha But it is always crowded with tourists who come to ask for
blessing the statue of Mae Nak. Not to mention offerings of garlands,
cosmetics, toys, diapers, and bottles as seserahan to Mae Nak and her
child.
Upon investigation, it turns out there
is a horror story behind this tradition offerings. About a hundred
years ago, there was a beautiful woman named son who married a man
named Maak. While pregnant with her first son, the husband should be
conscripted and did not return until the boy bore. This is where the
horror story begins.
In a remote village in Siam, Mak (Winai
Kraibutr) will be sent to fight in a war and had to leave his
pregnant wife, son (Intira Jaroenpura) which Mak's departure ushered
in a deep sadness. In the war, Mak injured and barely survived, but
he managed to return to his home to be reunited with his wife and
children who loved her, or so she thought was going on. Upon his
return Mak, events mysterious and scary began going around the
village.
A friend visited him and saw Mak living
together with the child. The villagers knew that the boy had actually
died in child birth process Mak few months earlier, realized what was
happening, that Mak has been fascinated by ghost kid. Nak ghost
becomes increasingly edgy and aggressive because of his inability to
accept the fact that he had died early and despair because they can
not live with the husband whom she loved. The villagers are trying to
tell Mak, or who knows too much, ended up murdered one by one by the
ghost boy.
Towards the end, Mak finally know what
is really going on. He was very surprised and frightened that fled to
the local temple. The well-meaning villagers tried to help him in
some way, among burning house inhabited by a ghost boy and eventually
summoned a mythical ghost repellent to crush the forehead of the
skull remains of boy (this is Siam mystical beliefs that will
reliably destroy a person's soul and ghosts ).
Boy turns to her first child died in
childbirth, the child also tragically died. However, because such
love to the husband, the ghost boy refused to leave the house until
her husband came home. Maak went back home without knowing that she
was a ghost. The last couples living together as if everything is
normal.
Until finally reveals that the boy had
died. Shocked by the fact, Mak went to a temple and called shaman to
expel son. After some difficulty, the shaman finally managed to blame
the girl, and save the boy ghost in a bottle. Since then, a special
shrine built in memory of Mae Nak. Even today, the accompanying
legends and traditions still exist.
